Hello | 3 things for all generations
Something silly, something sweet, something serious, and an ask
Hi! Today I’m back in Western Massachusetts, working on my book again, and tickled by the density of morning birdsong in this place. Here are 3 inspiring things I found to share with you this week:
An inspiring method for research with kids
Planning research with kids, or just curious about what kids think? Alison Clark has innovated a gentle, playful, child-centered approach that invites kids into structured inquiries about places and things that affect them. The “mosaic method,” outlined in her short book Listening To Young Children, blends interviews, child-led tours, book-making, and iterative reflective conversations. It gave me a ton of ideas for primary research I want to do!
A sweet awareness week you may have missed
This past week has been Intergenerational Awareness Week! I want to live in a world where I get to enjoy homemade meals with three generations, at least three times each week. To me these are culture-creating moments full of joy, learning, and story.
So many people are doing amazing work to bridge generational gaps. My local favorite is Treehouse Foundation, a co-housing village that houses and heals foster children and their parents, and elder community members.
A burst of ridiculous fun for the kid in you
Okay, this is a literally laugh-out-loud song that my nephews introduced me to: Cats Sit on You, by the Story Pirates, my new favorite comedic children’s music group.
On a different note, an ask…
Thank you to those who have followed my posts about the beauty of Persian culture and my visions of the emancipation of the Iranian people from a repressive, mixed-up, and violent theocracy. Now, an Iranian artist, Toomaj Saheli, has been sentenced to death for creating rap music critical of the government. You can support his freedom, and the freedom of all artists, by 1) signing this petition, or 2) contacting your favorite musical artists to ask them to join you in publicly supporting Toomaj. #FreeToomaj
